Bachata could be a harmless toast that ends up turning into a pitched battle, or two scholars with a markedly Eurocentric outlook arguing with excessive passion about the origin of Latin American dances. Bachata can also be an emergency call in the dead of night, or a school meeting that uncovers a delirious plot of child drug trafficking. 

Bachata is a comedy of entanglements, full of music and rhythm, that revolves around the difficulties of human coexistence. A mosaic of intertwined stories about (in)tolerance, starring contradictory characters —like all of us— with lives that, despite seeming histrionic, are very real. Are we as tolerant of “others” as we think?
