Être is a dance-theater piece created and performed by Miguel Jiménez that explores the construction of identity and its relationship with the perception of human freedom. Inspired by the reflections of philosopher Darío Sztajnszrajber, the work questions the perception of free will, asking whether our decisions arise from genuine intention or are the inevitable result of biological and physical determinants. It is an ode to existence that, far from being contemplative, places the audience at the epicenter of the drama, challenging the construction and autonomy of the contemporary subject.
The piece is presented through a code where words are elevated into verse. The analogy between rhyme, metrical timing, and the mechanics of the body is synchronized through a political and satirical language applied to contemporary dance, physical theater, breaking, and acrobatics.
Être constitutes a contemporary manifesto that explores the search for the individual and collective ‘self,’ inviting a horizontal reflection on the human condition. A meeting where philosophy, words, and movement challenge established notions of identity and free will.
