Sara Azurza was born on March 18, 1997, in Donostia-San Sebastián and has been involved with music since childhood. At just one year old, she began singing and entertaining her family every weekend, demonstrating an innate connection with singing. At age 8, she received her first guitar, Juanita, with which she began composing her first songs, laying the foundation for her musical career.
At 17, she took her first steps on stage with singer-songwriter Iker Lauroba, who encouraged her to record her first album. In 2018, she released her debut EP, "Theorein," a set of five songs in Basque and English with an organic and intimate sound, initially intended for her closest circle.
In 2020, she was selected for the Kutxa Kultur Musika Artist Residency, which allowed her to form her band alongside Iker Lauroba, Haritz Lauroba, and Julen Barandiaran (Txiki). Thanks to this momentum, she began performing on iconic stages such as the Jazzaldia in San Sebastián, Chillida Leku, and the San Agustín Theater in Azpeitia. In 2021, she was also a finalist for the Gaztea Maketa Lehiaketa. In January 2023, Azurza released her debut album "Hemen Berriro," produced by Eñaut Gaztañaga of Gaztain Estudioak. Featuring nine songs, this work explores the emotional cycle of life, standing out for its blend of pop and soul. The album opened the doors to the Basque music scene.
In November 2023, she released the single "Hiri Ilunen Umeak," which earned her a nomination for Best Song in Basque by the Spanish Academy of Music. This track marked the beginning of a new phase in her career and paved the way for her second album, also titled Hiri Ilunen Umeak, released in May 2025.
With a constantly evolving career, Sara Azurza continues to explore new sounds and establish herself as one of the most promising voices in the new Basque music scene. Her latest album, produced by Jon Agirrezabalaga of El Tigre Estudio, introduces audiences to a unique fusion of electronic indie soul, reaffirming her versatility and artistic sensibility.
