JUANCABALLO is a dance piece inspired by a popular legend from Úbeda, reimagined through a contemporary physical and stage language. The figure of Juancaballo, half man, half horse, embodies the conflict between beastliness and reason, between instinct and identity, bringing to the stage a reflection on the body as a territory of struggle and transformation.
The choreography merges Spanish and contemporary dance, exploring the tension between impulse and restraint, strength and fragility. The performers embark on a physical journey where movements evoke galloping, resistance, and surrender, within a space that becomes both a battlefield and a rite of initiation.
On a scenographic and sound level, JUANCABALLO creates a minimalist yet powerful universe, where light and live or pre-recorded music generate an atmosphere of mysticism and contained brutality. The piece adapts to both conventional and non-conventional spaces, integrating the surroundings into its discourse.
Rather than telling a linear story, JUANCABALLO invites the audience to immerse themselves in a sensorial atmosphere that appeals to ancestry, myth, and collective memory, while exploring the limits of the body and its resonance through time.
